Part of the problem with bringing hydrogen to its full commercial capacity is the perception that it is dangerous. Similar perceptions real or unfounded were made about gasoline and nuclear power first became a reality. Yet gradually, over time technology and safety standards developed and we become accustomed to living with potentially hazardous materials.
Hydrogen is thought to be our energy currency of the future. There is a lot to learn and the technology is evolving rapidly thanks in part to partnerships between government, industry, and academia. Education is key to public awareness about hydrogen. There are numerous environmental, economic, and societal implications to using hydrogen as a fuel and the more we understand about hydrogen the more we will embrace it. When enough people have a basic understanding about hydrogen the technology may be adopted.
In this section of H2Education, you will find information you need to begin learning about hydrogen and its safe use in our society. |
